01 - Balcon Sud (Planpraz/Flégère Cossing)© GEOPORTAIL At the ticket office, take a one way ticket to Planpraz and return to Flégère. Take the Planpraz cable car. On the way out, take the trail that rises above the cable car to the chalet “Altitude 2000”. Leave to the left the path which takes you up to the Brévent pass and take the path on your right towards La Flégère. The trail follows part of the route of the Grand Balcon Sud. It goes easily along a ledge through old pastures. One joins the Charlanon valley (1,820 m) halfway where a spring flows near a small cottage in ruins. Ignore the path on the left that leads to Lake Cornu and the one on the right that goes down to Chamonix, and continue the Grand Balcon Sud. Ignore the path to the right, which goes to the Chalet Flégère, and continue the Grand Balcon Sud path towards the ruins of the Chalet de la Glière (Pays du Mont-Blanc Tour). You then pass through the Glière valley, then the forest floor before reaching the cable car station of La Flégère (1,877 m). From the Viewpoint, the view embraces the entire Mont-Blanc mountain range, the Tour, Argentière and Mer de Glace glaciers. There is generous flora and blueberries in season. Take the Flégère cable car, which takes you back to the Praz. Praz Flégère link to Chamonix center by bus in July/August. This Grand Balcon Sud crossing can be achieved in one direction or the other. However, for those who do not know Chamonix, I recommend as proposed because before starting, you can take the Brévent cable car (preferably in the morning before the arrival of high clouds), which is at the exit of the Planpraz intermediate station. In this case, at the ticket office, ask for a one way to Brévent and return Brévent Planpraz plus a return to Flégère. The Brévent (2,525 m) has a magnificent viewpoint over the Mont-Blanc mountain range, its peaks and glaciers. The view also extends to the Fiz massif. Viewpoint. Back at Planpraz you can also admire the many hang gliders that soar from the take-off area. © All reproduction prohibited. | ||
