At the ticket office, take a return ticket to the intermediate station of La Croix-de-Lognan. Leaving the mid-point station Grands Montets (1,976 m), turn left onto the dirt road toward the Lognan refuge.

After about 15 minutes, you can see the Lognan refuge on left below the track. Ignore on your right the path going up which cuts through the mountain that you will take on the return leg. Keep to the track which soon brings you to a first view of the glacier.

Then follow the path overlooking the moraine until the higher Viewpoint (2,338 m) which is reached in under an hour. Impressive view of the sérac waterfalls and crevasses of the glacier below. After the higher Viewpoint, the trail goes down and begins on the left lateral moraine. Do not venture there, the route is for experienced hikers only, equipped for glacier hikes, who will join the Argentière refuge.

Turn around and go back down the trail on your left leading away from the glacier and which joins the dirt road taken in the morning, this leads to the intermediate station of the Grands Montets cable car. Before starting this walk, you can take the Grands Montets (preferably in the morning before the arrival of high clouds) leaving the station via Lognan. In this case, ask for a return ticket Grand-Montets.

The Grands Montets (3,295 m) are a beautiful gazebo with a viewpoint. View of the Argentière glacier, spectacular panorama with in the foreground the Drus, the Aiguille du Midi, the Mont-Blanc, the Dôme and the Aiguille du Goûter. On the other side of the valley, the Aiguilles Rouges.

You can also follow up this trail with hike N°11 (Chalets de la Pendant, Le Chapeau, Le Lavancher). In this case, do not take a return ticket to the intermediate station of Croix-de-Lognan in Argentière.
